3 Writing: We use the Lucy Calkins program. Students will write about things they know. Skills will be developed on a gradual basis throughout the year. 15 Math Expressions focuses on two core concepts starting in Kindergarten through 5 th grade. 1.Number concepts Breaking apart numbers, or finding the embedded numbers, is the key concept running through all the number units. 2.An algebraic approach to word problems Students begin working with story problems and create word problems in Kindergarten and continue throughout the other grades.
