1 Accomplishments Expanded efforts to recruit and retain adult students included selecting four non-traditional students to serve as Student Ambassadors, developing an adult recruitment video, implementing Adult Week with various activities for adult students scheduled throughout the district, and formally recognizing a Non-Traditional Student of the Year.

37 Accomplishments In February 2013 the Task Force on General Education under Nancy Caldwell’s direction piloted an assessment tool measuring LLC students’ mastery of foundational knowledge. Tom Caldwell is also a member of that Task Force and contributed to the ongoing efforts to develop and monitor an assessment plan focused on internally-created prompts. This project was the culmination of a two-year process in which task force members surveyed faculty for their ideas and input, developed an appropriate structure for the exam, and created the questions.

47 Accomplishments Tom Caldwell completed a sabbatical that included new curriculum developed for the existing Humanities Through the Arts course as well as a new complimentary course, Nature in the Humanities. He also established groundwork toward having LLC recognized as a “Tree Campus USA” and worked with Human Resources to develop a training program for new employee orientation. As co-chair of the college’s Communication Task Force, Tom also implemented a campus-wide communication audit used for promoting the college’s core value of “Communication.” He has established a relationship with the Associate VP for Workforce Development and Robinson Correctional Facility in hopes of offering Humanities courses at the facility as a full-time instructor bridging the gap between campus and the facility. Tom has also worked with the Art instructors to create a “walking tour” of the outdoor sculptures across campus.

235 Accomplishments Debra Stewart, a Project PAL adult learner, finally passed her GED in the spring of 2013. Because of her love of poetry, her goal was to write a book of poems. At the May, 2013 GED Graduation, it was announced that her first book of poetry, “Inspirations from God“has been published and is now available on Amazon.com.

284 Accomplishments The Dental Hygiene faculty and students volunteered their time and services to RAM, Remote Area Medical, a community service organization which provides Medical and Dental services to underprivileged populations.  They travelled to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for a weekend  providing Dental Hygiene services to 110+ patients, assisting Dentists, and giving local anesthetic injections to prepare patients for treatment.

286 Initiatives The Paramedical Services Program is pursuing accreditation from COAEMSP – Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Services Profession.  This will allow our graduates to take the National Board exam for licensure.  There is currently a state test which may not be accepted in the near future, hence the need for accreditation of the program.

293 Initiatives The Dental Hygiene program is collaborating with local Medical and Dental professionals, i.e. Coles Community Health Program, to begin offering adult dental care to underserved populations.  Currently, dental services  provided by  the state are limited to children living in low income families leaving the adult population without services.  Our Dental Hygiene program will become a Medicaid provider.
