3 We are very excited to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an exciting, enriching and rewarding school year. There is so much learning to do, and we learn best with lots of interaction with peers and our environment. These interactions tend to be exciting, engaging, noisy and messy! This year we will focus on different skills to better prepare your child for kindergarten. We are looking forward to working with your child and are excited to be a part of their growth and development. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year. Let’s work together to make this year full of fun, learning, and personal growth for your child!

4 Our expectations for the year is to have tons of fun! We will be learning letter names and sounds (At Herrington we have a Dual Language Program which your children can qualify for next school year, so in PK they will be practicing some of the basic skills) We will be Reading: Sight word recognition, reading comprehension, making predictions Working with Math: Number recognition, counting, shapes, colors, and sizes. Practicing our handwriting, drawing, and creating. Writing our name starting with a capital letter. We will learn about plants, animals, and our environment. Work with computers and much, much more! *We believe in teaching through experience and hands on activities that will engage the children in the learning process. Nuestras expectativas para este año escolar es tener mucha diversión! Estaremos aprendiendo los nombres y sonidos de las letras (En Herrington tenemos un programa de Lenguaje Dual para el cual sus hijos podrán calificar para el siguiente año escolar. Así que en PK estarán practicando algunas de las habilidades básicas) Estaremos leyendo En Matemáticas trabajaremos con números, figuras geométricas, colores y tamaños. Practicando nuestra escritura, técnicas de dibujo y creatividad. Así como escribir el nombre comenzando con mayúscula. Aprenderemos sobre Ciencias Sociales, plantas, animales y el medio ambiente Trabajaremos con la computadora y mucho mas! *Creemos en el enseñanza por medio de la experiencia y actividades que estimulen a los alumnos a comprometerse con el proceso de aprendizaje.

HAWK Bucks 1.Stay on task & finish work. 2.Respect others and their property. 3.Take turns to speak. 4.Help keep our room clean and neat. 5.Listen and follow directions. **SEVERE DISRUPTION: In the event a student chooses to use extreme behavior, the student will IMMEDIATELY be referred to administration regardless of how many prior rules have been broken. A letter in the daily box will indicate an expectation not followed and the number designates which expectation was broken. Parents’ signature is required on daily basis.

7 Daily Folder: The blue folder or green will be sent home every day. Please check your child’s backpack daily for this folder. It must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned the next day. This folder is your child’s responsibility and the sooner they learn about being responsible for their belongings the easier they’ll get through school when they are older. In it you’ll find:  Daily behavior progress  Important notes  Homework (Sometimes)  Calendar  Classroom Rules  Notes Thursday Folder: The red folder will be sent home every Thursday. Please check your child’s backpack on Thursdays for two folders. They both must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned the next day. *All of the District’s rules and regulations can be found in the Student Handbook online. Please go over it with your child if you have any doubts about behavior expectations.

DIFFERENT WAYS PARENTS CAN HELP: Sign up to be a volunteer (Anotarse como voluntario del salón, escuela ó ambos.) Help during special events, with decorations, cut-outs, filing, organizing Thursday’s folders, cafeteria, etc. (Ayudar durante eventos especiales, con decoraciones, recortes, archivando, organizando las carpetas del jueves, cafeteria) Treasure Box: If you wish to volunteer for Friday treats we would prefer small toys, stickers, pencils, notebooks, mini story books, rings, bracelets, bubbles, yo-yo’s, tops, small toy cars, paly-doh, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. El Cofre de Tesoros: Si desea colaborar con sorpresas para los viernes se prefiere que contengan pequeños premios como juguetitos, calcamonías, lápices, cuadernitos, mini cuentos, anillos, pulseras, burbujas, yoyos, trompos, carritos, plastilina, toallitas húmedas, gel antibacterial, etc.) Read stories (Contando cuentos) Fixing recipes with the children (Preparando recetas con los ni ñ os) Checking the folder everyday. It’s the best way to be in-touch (Revisando su folder a diario) COMMUNICATION (I check my e-mail daily and try to respond as quickly as possible.) 10 Birthday Treats: The birthday celebrations will be held right before dismissal time (around 10:10 a.m. or 2:10 pm). If you are going to send a birthday treat, please let your child’s teacher know ahead of time so that we can get a special treat for our students with food allergies. Birthday treats to share with the class must be store bought. Teachers can pass-out invitations at school only if the entire class is invited. Otherwise please hand them out at your own convenience. Cumpleaños: La celebración de los cumpleaños serán un poco antes de la hora de salida (al rededor de las 10:10 a.m./2:10 pm). Los dulces solamente se permiten tres veces al año.(Será anunciado)Las maestras repartirán las invitaciones para el grupo entero únicamente.
