2 Welcome to Middle School Spanish!You have learned much Spanish during your years in Lower School and possibly Early Childhood, too. This school year, you have a textbook. When we start using our new textbooks in a few weeks, I’m sure you will be very pleased by how much you already know. You have been so fortunate to have had Spanish in the Lower School for so many years. Because you learned so much through your science classes in Spanish, we will be able to move more quickly or skip some pages or add some new and different vocabulary that may not be in the book. If you are new to Hutchison, you will find that you have everything you need in the textbook so that you will be able to learn lots of Spanish, too! As we work with the textbook, you will hear words like vocabulary, grammar, and culture. You’ve learned most of these concepts as you followed the science curriculum in Lower School although you didn’t call them these names. Just like in English, you’ve been talking all along without knowing the specific rules of the language. Now, you will start to learn more about the Spanish language and the rules that tell you the correct way to speak a language. We will begin with a Bridge Unit that is customized especially for you. The Bridge Unit contains review material from your past studies and new material, as well. 1
