4 TELPAS Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System  El progreso de el desarrollo de los cuatro dominios del inglés se miden a través de un examen estatal llamado TELPAS.  Este examen se les administra a todos los alumnos LEP o limitados en inglés cada año.  Cada maestro califica a sus estudiante usando descripciones como Principiante, Intermedio, Avanzado o Avanzado Superior

5 TELPAS Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System  The progress of the development of the four domains of English are measured through a state exam called TELPAS.  This test is given to all LEP students or limited English students each year.  Each teacher rates their students using descriptions of Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Advanced High.

6 Descriptores del nivel de proficencia  Principiante (Beginner)-  No puede usar o es muy limitado el uso del ingles  Intermedio (Intermediate)-  Poca capacidad de usar el uso de ingles  Lenguaje muy simple en ingles con palabras básicas  Avanzado (Advanced)-  Usa ingles al nivel de su grado con apoyo adicional  Avanzado superior (Advanced High)  Usa ingles al nivel de su grado con apoyo mínimo

7 Proficiency Level Descriptors  (Beginner)-  You can not use or have limited use of English  (Intermediate)-  Little ability to use English  Very simple language with basic words in English  (Advanced)-  Use English at grade level with additional support  (Advanced High)  Use English at grade level with minimal support

8 La importancia de TELPAS  Este sistema demuestra al estado de Texas si los alumnos están progresando apropiadamente en inglés.  Este examen estatal también es parte de los criterios para poder salir del programa bilingüe.  El alumno debe de obtener Avanzado Superior en escritura para poder salir del programa. Los alumnos de cuarto grado son la excepción, ellos DEBEN pasar la prueba STAAR de escritura en inglés al igual que lograr todas las metas de los criterios.

9 The Importance of TELPAS  This system shows the state of Texas if students are making adequate progress in English.  The state exam is also part of the criteria to exit the bilingual program.  The student must obtain Advanced High in writing to exit the program. The fourth graders are the exception, they MUST pass the STAAR writing test in English as well as achieving all the goals of the criteria.

11 ¿Qué significa STAAR?  STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) es el nombre del programa de evaluación académica para los estudiantes en las escuelas públicas de Texas.  Las pruebas STAAR se basan en el currículo estatal obligatorio llamado Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills o TEKS. El currículo incluye los conocimientos y las destrezas que los estudiantes necesitan aprender para avanzar académicamente de un año a otro.  Durante su carrera en las escuelas públicas, los estudiantes tomarán exámenes en lectura, matemáticas, ciencias y estudios sociales. Los estudiantes tomarán entre 2 a 4 exámenes dependiendo del grado.

12 What is STAAR?  STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) is the name of academic assessment program for students in Texas public schools.  The STAAR tests are based on the state-mandated curriculum called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS. The curriculum includes knowledge and skills that students need to learn to advance academically from year to year.  During his career in public schools, students take exams in reading, math, science and social studies. Students will take between 2-4 exams each year depending on their grade level.

30 Ideas para apoyar a sus hijos con el estrés del STAAR en casa  Escuche más.  Asegúrese que sus hijos descansen bien en la noche con 10 horas especialmente la noche antes del examen.  Necesitan comer un almuerzo saludable.  Dejen que los niños sean niños.  ¡Anima a su hijo/a siempre!

31 Ideas to help your children with the stress of STAAR  Listen more.  Make sure your children good night's rest with 10 hours especially at night before the test.  They need to eat a healthy lunch.  Let kids be kids.  Encourage your son/daughter always!
