4 Russell’s Statement “Every branch secretary should be able to send a simple directly to an accurate list of all their local members at the press of a button. I feel no need to police content in advance. There are, of course, some nuances to this: It needs to be compatible with our data protection responsibilities, including not revealing personal addresses or contacting people who have opted out. It should be connected to our database, not any locally stored mailing lists. It would be ideal to be able to split the list by category (HT, DHT, etc.) but in some ways I am less fussed about this – it stops officials from excluding any groups and they could put “FAO Heads” or similar if the content is specialised. Consistent branding is nice but not essential. It should be very easy to use in the context of our officials’ typical IT skills and daily working lives. I am open on the question of what access we should grant other local officials and regional officials. I am entirely flexible on the precise technical solutions to these goals. I am flexible on timing, within reason, given other competing or connected priorities.”
