Mission The Catholic Academy for Life Leadership complements catechetical efforts in the diocese by providing systematic formation, leadership, and service opportunities for teens in pro-life and chaste living topics such as Theology of the Body, Catholic teachings on human sexuality, and bioethics. C.A.L.L. supports parents in their aim to offer their teens a truthful and faithful Catholic Worldview with the hope of happy, healthy, and holy relationships and a vibrant faith throughout their college years.

The retreat was really a wonderful bonding time, so if your teen wants to meet other teens in CALL, the fall retreat might be a really good one for him/her. Alternate retreats need to be Catholic and spiritual, not just team building retreats. One Catholic Spiritual Retreat is required in Year 1 and also in Year 3. 17 Teen Mentors After Graduation from CALL, teens can apply to become Teen Mentors the following year and even as college students. This year we have also accepted a few 2nd and 3rd Year teens as Mentors who will be helping at the seminars. Copyright 2012 Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Catholic Academy for Life Leadership

C.A.L.L. Details Parent attendance equals 4 hrs. Very do-able for busy teens Meets 4 times a year for 3 high school years + retreats in Years 1 and 3. 15 service hours per year Students receive a Certificate of Completion. Mentoring year, graduating with distinction. Can you say college applications? Impressive! Parent Component= Encourage parent attendance, Parent s to generate home discussion, Fr. Loya’s cd: which is a gift to all families. So, parents will also understand the language of theology of the body, embrace it and be able to talk with their teens about it. Future possibilities shadowing opportunities with professionals living their faith, graduating with distinction. Seminars- 4 per year, for 3 years. Offered in 3 locations and different dates. Attendance at seminars- Teens have an attendance requirement. They can meet that requirement by selecting and attending seminars and retreats. If they don’t attend the required ones in a given year, they can make them up in a subsequent year. Retreats- 1 per year in Years 1 and 3. CALL retreats meet requirement, so do Life Teen, or parish retreats. Team building ropes courses that are just fun are not what we require. Your school’s choir retreat also won’t work. We’re talking about Catholic spiritual retreats! Volunteer Service Hours- 15 hours per year at agencies that are already approved or much like those that are approved. If you are already doing these for another school, the same hours count for CALL too. You will see that there are no dog washing or pet sitting services, or Susan G. Komen walks on the approved list. This is by design. Required service is for human beings, to promote their dignity, and for teens to see everyone’s worth. Teens can earn up to 4 hours per year with parent attendance at seminars. Of course, parents are always welcome! Certificate- in 3-4 years a certificate can be earned. Teens can then apply for an additional mentoring year to earn graduation with distinction! 20 Supportive of Parish Youth Programs$75 per year / teen plus retreat costs. Discount for teens attending their Parish Youth Program (and siblings). Credit for similar retreats. Credit for service hours. Seminars are on two separate afternoons, in two locations of valley, so teens can still go to their parish youth night. Youth Group discounts as we want to encourage, not replace these programs, sibling discounts as well. Copyright 2012 Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Catholic Academy for Life Leadership
Each teen needs: email, login, password! Don’t forget them! Website Home Page For those who have already registered, I’m sure you noticed that the process was much easier than last year. How many have already selected their teen’s seminars for the entire year? We are growing and are anticipating some full venues, so please do select ALL seminars now, and if you need to switch to other venues for some of the dates, you can do that later. We have top capacities set for each seminar and for retreats. We want to save room for parents but can no longer have parents register themselves as attending on the website. We’ll just save room for parents. Obviously we’ll have room at Yr 2 Sem. A for one parent per teen. We need to know if we need to add more rooms and speakers as soon as possible. Each teen needs: , login, password! Don’t forget them! Copyright 2012 Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Catholic Academy for Life Leadership
attendance Select 4 Seminars & Retreat for Year 1Delete any extra Seminars in your cart Get a date stamp on workbook on way out. (See Workbook!) Teens check in and Parents sign sheet at seminar only if they attend. Attendance can be made up in subsequent years. Important if teen wants to earn certificate at graduation from CALL The only way we will mark teen or parents as attended has changed!! Last year, it was the walk in attendance and the incomplete user profiles that caused the most problems for us. The other was lost passwords and user names. This is important: After Registration, keep your user name and password and for each teen! Do not lose these. ( Here is what I use to keep all mine: little booklet. Also a program called “Onepassword” to help) Teen (or parent for the teen) must Pre-select seminars. Then, check in “My Seminars”- only 4 per year, plus a retreat should be there for Year 1 teens. Delete all extra seminars. Print a ticket. Do not cut it out. Bring ticket on regular piece of paper. Drop ticket in basket marked Tickets.
The Beauty of Biology: Human ReproductionMasculine Sexuality: Power & Responsibility Year 1 will be covering Theology of the Body and Year 2 is entitled: The Beauty of Biology and the first Seminar A is actually two separate seminars. One is for the guys and their dads. The other is for the gals and their Moms. Both are to assist parents in giving them “the talk”! For both Year 1 and Year 2 seminars, we have striven to find a balance between being careful about some teen’s innocence and preparing them for what the teen’s will surely encounter soon from their peers, to be encountered now, in a safe, Catholic environment where parents are welcome. These seminars are overviews. They bring up topics that parents can go into in more depth at home. Please see the Resource section of the website. Chastity Pledge?? Re-pledge each year? What do you think? Year 1 or 2? Some think it’s hokey, some think it’s a good idea. We’d like to hear your thoughts on this. There is also an option of them doing it at home. Year 2 Sem A’s: They will be held in different rooms on the same night. Both will be presentations about the amazing truth about our physical bodies from the light of the beauty of Catholic moral teachings. The guys will also hear more about the difference between how the world views men and how the Church views Men. The gals,.. Teen Cycle Trackers will be talked about for the gals and there is the option of purchasing one for your teen daughters. 25 cycle trackers : For Moms to teach daughters. No NFP rules.Good Hygiene tips. Doctor approved. To combat ignorance that fosters early use of pill. $15 each. The Office of NFP developed them and had them reviewed by Dr. William Chavira, OB/Gyn. They help a young lady learn to track her body’s changes through the menstrual cycle. They are meant to be helps for Mothers to teach really simple observations to their own daughters. They do not teach fertile or infertile times. But are a help to physicians if there are cycle issues that need medical help. They help to address one of the most common reasons some doctors put young girls on the pill- to regulate their cycles.
