6 Jesus’ teachings about loveJesus taught that the most important thing is love. He meant unconditional love which is loving people for who they are, regardless of whether or not they love you back. The power to love this way comes from God. It is the opposite of conditional love which is ‘I will love you if…’. Love God, and love your neighbour as yourself. Jesus said: There is no greater love than this, that someone should lay down his life for his friends. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

9 What did Saint Paul say about love?“Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful; nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offence. Love keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over other men’s sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing love cannot face; there is no limit to its faith, its hope and endurance. 10 Home work: Footprints in the sandExplain what the poem means, and how it demonstrates Agape What is this poem saying about the way God shows love? One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, When I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat I could only see one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord, ‘You promised me Lord that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?’ The Lord replied, ‘The years when you have seen only one set of Footprints, my child, is when I carried you.’ (Mary Stevenson) Try writing a ‘God’s eye’ view of footprints.
