9 ANTIOQUIAN MINING INDUSTRY The province of Antioquia is the biggest gold producer province in Colombia. During the 17 th century, Antioquia produced more than 40% of the gold production in the world. For the past 50 years, miners in the northeast of Antioquia have produced more than 17 mill. of oz of gold. In 2005, the gold production in the country reached 1,115,000 oz and Antioquia was responsible for more than 60 % of the country’s gold production, which was 700,000 oz.
