2 Case Studies WiNK Associates Ltd has considerable experience both at an operational level and strategic level planning for visitor attractions and visitor destinations. WiNK has provided the lead input on behalf of clients into Master Planning processes in respect of the Visitor Journey and Visitor Experience gained from insights resulting from Vision XS modeling and over twenty five years of consulting and operational experience in the international attraction sector. Example projects: Whipsnade Wild Animal Park (UK) – Participant in the Master Planning and subsequent investment which grew visitation at the 56 year old country annex of London Zoo to over 500,000 visitors pa (+22% YOY for two successive years). Woburn Safari Park (UK) The 22 year old park was at an all time low of 173K visitors pa, making a significant loss. Led the Master Planning and subsequent investment which profitably grew these numbers to c450K pa in the highly competitive attractions market just north of London. Twycross Zoo (UK) – Initially Project Director for Vision XS Ltd’s input to the zoos development of a ten year Master Plan. Subsequently provided interim part time Commercial Director input at time when the zoo had a significant capital programme, major cultural change and restructuring and was performing badly financially. Yorkshire Wildlife Park 2008 ongoing (UK) - As one of five shareholder directors participated in the Master Planning and subsequent investment which took a tired farm attraction from c15K footfall pa to currently 575K with further growth anticipated. In 2014 the Park generated revenues of £7.8M and an EBITDA of £3.3M. Kidzworld Cornwall (UK) – Led the Master Planning and subsequent investment which grew revenues by >20% pa for two successive years through improved dwell times and spend in the height of the UK recession. Sentosa Island (Singapore) – An international Master Planning team were commissioned to undertake a fundamental re-engineering of Sentosa Island as a tourist and day visitor destination (c£2Bn proposed investment). Chris Webster worked on this project as Project Director for Vision XS Ltd’s input acting as “policemen” for the Sentosa Development Agency, the client. The role was to sense check each iteration of the Master Plan process using Vision Modeling and industry experience.
3 Case Studies Example projects cont:Willows Activity Farm (UK) – This highly successful farm attraction had grown organically to c400K visitors pa. WiNK was engaged to give strategic direction to a Master Plan to build on strengths and eliminate weaknesses of the operation over the next 10 years. Visitation grew 10% and revenue almost 15% in 2014 the first year of implementation of recommended “quick wins”. Plasir Der Merle, Neethlingshof, Uitkyk Wine Estates, Stellenbosch (SA) – co-leded the pre - Master Planning feasibility and business plans for developing these three wine estates as visitor attractions and “brand homes” for their respective boards. All three proposals recommend significant investment which is currently being reviewed by the client Dreamland, Margate (UK) – Led the procurement bid which subsequently resulted in Sands Heritage Ltd securing a 99 year lease to re-open and operate this heritage amusement park, once one of the top ten attractions in the UK. Subsequently assisted with ride acquisition, master and business planning. Chris Webster joined the Board as a Non Executive Director in November 2014 to provide ongoing input. Piglets Farm Attraction (UK) Retained by the Sykes family to develop and input on positioning, investment programme and business plan for taking this new Farm attraction to the next level of profitable development. Pink Pig Farm (UK) Engaged by Sally and Andrew Jackson on an ongoing basis to advise on master planning, future investment and operational matters to build on the success of recent investment. William’s Den (UK) – Have provided strategic input to Christian and Victoria Carver periodically to this new attraction currently being planned with a view to opening in 2016.
