The platform you never outgrowWith the widest range of device choices, Windows can reach all grade levels. Students can grow from learning their ABC’s on Endless Alphabet to developing their dissertations with Office 365 all on one platform. Let's talk about some of the key selling points for Windows 10 devices that you can discuss with your education customers. Certainly, it's important for students to begin using Office apps. Microsoft Office was rated the third-most desired skill needed for high-growth, high-wage jobs according to a recent IDC study. Skills Requirements for Tomorrow’s Best Jobs by John F Gantz Microsoft solutions are: Able to run apps from basic reading to dynamic math, science, and art Reach all grade levels The only platform that offers touch, type, mouse, pen, talk and gesture K-5 6-8 9-12 Beyond
Think in ink Research shows students who diagram thinking with a pen, using an application like OneNote, score 25 to 36 percent higher scores than those who only use keyboard when solving science problems. Computer interfaces and their impact on learning by Sharon Oviatt Windows 10 offers a premier inking experience across devices and applications that engages students and enhances their learning. Another important aspect of Windows 10 devices that you can discuss with your education customers: Inking helps students learn. Students and teachers can easily transform any webpage into their canvas with Microsoft Edge – the only built-in technology that lets you write or type directly on webpages.* Experts report that when students write they: Learn by doing Reinforce memory Gain interdisciplinary collaboration skills Improve comprehension of words and concepts Research has shown, a huge part of learning is the tactile pen-to- paper motion. Writing things down stimulates learning cognition and memory retention far beyond typing on a keyboard which primarily puts students in a mode of transcribing, akin to what a court stenographer might do. The more complex a problem, or the more creativity required to solve a problem, the more important a pen becomes, and the more a keyboard will impede appropriate cognitive strategies. When you put a stylus into the hands of your students, rather than putting them in front of a keyboard, they learn more deeply and they are forced to think more about what they are doing. In fact, research has shown that taking notes with a stylus or pen lights up more creative areas of the brain than using a keyboard alone. The new Microsoft Edge browser allows students to quickly browse, read, research, and even mark up and share the web. *Desktop experience only
Collaborative learning on all devicesWindows 10 enables students to develop core skills necessary for success in today’s competitive workforce. Likewise, you can talk to your education customers about how Windows 10 devices enable collaborative learning. According to the Pew Research Center, 79 percent of teachers surveyed agreed that digital tools encourage greater collaboration among students. Pew Research Center Students can work on the same documents at the same time within the same classroom, or from different parts of the world with Windows devices, apps, and software. Windows has the largest range of devices and Office web support. Choose from web, mobile, and desktop versions of apps that allow for a dynamic classroom, and encourage collaboration creativity, critical thinking and communication skills, such as OneNote, OneDrive, and Office 365.* *Office 365 subscription sold separately
Best in class assistive learning technologyWindows supports the widest array of assistive learning technology to empower students and enable personalized learning. Narrator On-screen keyboard “ The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula)is an incredible specimen of survival in nature…” High Contrast Views Magnifier And critical for education customers, Windows 10 devices offers best- in- class assistive learning technology. Approximately 10 percent of the population is thought to be affected by specific learning disabilities, having a profound effect on educational outcomes. Understanding Neurocognitive Developmental Disorders Can Improve Education for All, Sciencemag.org Teachers can create inclusive classrooms with assistive technologies. Windows devices are compatible with the widest array of assistive technology. Built-in tools to read screens aloud, convert voice to text, or magnify displays. Microsoft technology helps create inclusive classrooms that are accessible to students of all abilities. In addition to the many accessibility features built into the Windows Ease of Access Center such as Narrator, high- contract options, Magnifier, On-Screen Keyboard, and more, Windows devices are compatible with the widest array of assistive technology, such as: Alternative input devices allow individuals to control their computers through means other than a standard keyboard or pointing device. Examples include: Alternative keyboards—featuring larger- or smaller-than-standard keys or keyboards, alternative key configurations, and keyboards for use with one hand. Electronic pointing devices—used to control the cursor on the screen without use of hands. Devices used include ultrasound, infrared beams, eye movements, nerve signals, or brain waves. Sip-and-puff systems—activated by inhaling or exhaling. Wands and sticks—worn on the head, held in the mouth or strapped to the chin and used to press keys on the keyboard Joysticks—manipulated by hand, feet, chin, etc. and used to control the cursor on screen. Trackballs—movable balls on top of a base that can be used to move the cursor on screen. Touch screens—allow direct selection or activation of the computer by touching the screen, making it easier to select an option directly rather than through a mouse movement or keyboard. Touch screens are either built into the computer monitor or can be added onto a computer monitor. Braille embossers transfer computer generated text into embossed Braille output. Braille translation programs convert text scanned-in or generated via standard word processing programs into Braille, which can be printed on the embosser. Keyboard filters are typing aids such as word prediction utilities and add-on spelling checkers that reduce the required number of keystrokes. Keyboard filters enable users to quickly access the letters they need and to avoid inadvertently selecting keys they don't want. Light signaler alerts monitor computer sounds and alert the computer user with light signals. This is useful when a computer user cannot hear computer sounds or is not directly in front of the computer screen. As an example, a light can flash alerting the user when a new message has arrived or a computer command has completed. On-screen keyboards provide an image of a standard or modified keyboard on the computer screen that allows the user to select keys with a mouse, touch screen, trackball, joystick, switch, or electronic pointing device. On-screen keyboards often have a scanning option that highlights individual keys that can be selected by the user. On-screen keyboards are helpful for individuals who are not able to use a standard keyboard due to dexterity or mobility difficulties. Reading tools and learning disabilities programs include software and hardware designed to make text-based materials more accessible for people who have difficulty with reading. Options can include scanning, reformatting, navigating, or speaking text out loud. These programs are helpful for those who have difficulty seeing or manipulating conventional print materials; people who are developing new literacy skills or who are learning English as a foreign language; and people who comprehend better when they hear and see text highlighted simultaneously. Refreshable Braille displays provide tactile output of information represented on the computer screen. A Braille "cell" is composed of a series of dots. The pattern of the dots and various combinations of the cells are used in place of letters. Refreshable Braille displays mechanically lift small rounded plastic or metal pins as needed to form Braille characters. The user reads the Braille letters with his or her fingers, and then, after a line is read, can refresh the display to read the next line. Screen enlargers, or screen magnifiers, work like a magnifying glass for the computer by enlarging a portion of the screen which can increase legibility and make it easier to see items on the computer. Some screen enlargers allow a person to zoom in and out on a particular area of the screen. Screen readers are used to verbalize, or "speak," everything on the screen including text, graphics, control buttons, and menus into a computerized voice that is spoken aloud. In essence, a screen reader transforms a graphic user interface (GUI) into an audio interface. Screen readers are essential for computer users who are blind. Speech recognition or voice recognition programs, allow people to give commands and enter data using their voices rather than a mouse or keyboard. Voice recognition systems use a microphone attached to the computer, which can be used to create text documents such as letters or messages, browse the Internet, and navigate among applications and menus by voice. Text-to-Speech (TTS) or speech synthesizers receive information going to the screen in the form of letters, numbers, and punctuation marks, and then "speak" it out loud in a computerized voice. Using speech synthesizers allows computer users who are blind or who have learning difficulties to hear what they are typing and also provide a spoken voice for individuals who can not communicate orally, but can communicate their thoughts through typing. Talking and large-print word processors are software programs that use speech synthesizers to provide auditory feedback of what is typed. Large-print word processors allow the user to view everything in large text without added screen enlargement. TTY/TDD conversion modems are connected between computers and telephones to allow an individual to type a message on a computer and send it to a TTY/TDD telephone or other Baudot equipped device.
Deploy and manage your waySave IT time. “The IT department is impressed with the ease of deployment of Windows 10. It was a seamless transition for everyone.” Christopher Rhoda Vice President for Information Services and CIO Thomas College Waterville, Maine [Animated build on slide shows in-place upgrade steps] Another selling point for education customers is how easy it is to deploy and manage Windows 10. Management and deployment tasks have been simplified so school staff can focus on helping students. Let Windows do all the work for you. Whether for 1 classroom or 1000, Windows 10 provides educational institutions with simplified ways to deploy and manage your way. The in-place upgrade allows devices to move from Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 directly to Windows 10. For schools purchasing new devices, we have a new tools that eliminates wipe-and-load – Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer. This tool creates provisioning packages that will have the necessary configuration steps included in them. Deployment options for these packages include simple double-click operations and fully-automated solutions. Then easily distribute and manage education apps with the new Windows Store for Busines. New deployment and management tools help lower costs, save time, simplify device management, and enable you to power your school with the strength of Microsoft solutions.
Safest Windows ever “Windows 10 brings the best of Windows 7 and 8 together, but security is the driving force behind our rapid transition to the new platform. The new capabilities for information protection and malware resistance will help us deal with new and emerging threats.” Thuan Nguyen Chief Information Officer, Kent School District Kent, Washington And your education customers will be interested in the security built in to Windows 10. According to recent studies, 79 percent of parents are concerned with privacy and security of their children’s data. Parent’s Attitudes Toward Education Technology, Marketplace.org Windows 10 is the safest Windows ever with new and improved tools for data protection, privacy, student identity and log-in, and malware protection.
