5 H (ah-chay)  Always silent!  Hola  Hombre  Hogar

6 J (hota)  Makes an English /h/ sound  Jardín  Jamón  Jalapeño

7 LL (ay-ya)  Double “l” makes a /y/ sound.  Llama  Tortilla  Quesadilla

8 Ñ (en-ya)  Makes two sounds /ny/  Niño  Baño  Ñame

9 R (aire)  Sounds like /d/ unless it’s at the beginning of a word. At the beginning, it rolls.  Ejemplo: /d/ Pero  Caro  Árbol  roll: Rojo  Ratón  Robar

10 RR airre  RR always rolls. Let’s practice.  Arriba  Barra  Carro

11 V, B (Bay)  Both of these letters have the same name.  They often make the same sound.  Some Latin Americans reverse the English sounds.  Bebida  Verde  Volibol

12 Z (seta)  Makes an /s/ sound  It does not buzz like the English Z.  Zapato  Zumo  Zoológico
