How Firm a Foundation CCLI #606984

How firm a foundation Ye saints of the Lord Is laid for your faith In His excellent Word

What more can He say Than to you He hath said To you who for refuge To Jesus have fled

And will still give thee aidFear not I am with thee O be not dismayed For I am thy God And will still give thee aid

I’ll strengthen thee help theeAnd cause thee to stand Upheld by my righteous Omnipotent hand

When through fiery trials My grace all sufficientThy pathway shall lie My grace all sufficient Shall be thy supply

The flame shall not hurt theeI only design Thy dross to consume And thy gold to refine

The soul that on Jesus Hath leaned for repose I will not I will not Desert to his foes

That soul though all hell Should endeavor to shakeI’ll never no never No never forsake

I Am Thine O Lord

I am Thine O Lord I have heard Thy voice And it told Thy love to me But I long to rise In the arms of faith And be closer drawn to Thee

Draw me nearer Nearer blessed Lord To the cross Where Thou hast died Draw me nearer nearer To Thy precious bleeding side

Consecrate me now To Thy service Lord By the power of grace divine Let my soul look up With a steadfast hope And my will be lost in Thine

Draw me nearer Nearer blessed Lord To the cross Where Thou hast died Draw me nearer nearer To Thy precious bleeding side

Oh the pure delight Of a single hour That before Thy Throne I spend When I kneel in prayer And with Thee my God I commune as Friend with friend

Draw me nearer Nearer blessed Lord To the cross Where Thou hast died Draw me nearer nearer To Thy precious bleeding side

There are depths of loveThat I cannot know Till I cross the narrow sea There are heights of joy That I may not reach Till I rest in peace with Thee

Draw me nearer Nearer blessed Lord To the cross Where Thou hast died Draw me nearer nearer To Thy precious bleeding side

Colossians 1:21–23 (NASB) 21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—

Colossians 1:21–23 (NASB) 23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceIn these verses, Paul shows us that because Christ is Lord of the church, He must be Lord of the Christian, and our lives should reflect His Lordship.

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceJesus is not something we add to our lives; He is our life – He is the founder and finisher of our faith, and we must reject every attempt to dethrone Him in our lives and in the church.

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceTo withstand the world’s attempts to undermine our new identity in Christ: 1) we must remember who we were prior to trusting Christ, 2) we must remember the purpose of Christ’s reconciliation, and 3) we must persevere in the faith which is in accordance with the unchanging hope of the gospel.

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance1. We must remember who we were prior to trusting Christ (21).

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceEveryone who truly belongs to Christ comes to an understanding of who they were before Christ.

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverancealienated - foreigner, not a citizen, to be shut out from one’s fellowship and intimacy

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverancehostile in mind (22) – meaning our entire mindset was contrary to God which led us to live in open rebellion toward Him as demonstrated in evil deeds.

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance“Scriptures present humanity, in our fallen state, as hostile to God and in need of reconciliation.” -Douglas Moo

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceBut now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Eph 2:13)

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance“Paul reminds the Colossians of the great change that has occurred in their lives, in order that this reminder may cause them to dread the very suggestion of returning to their former manner of life” (Hendricksen, 83).

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance2. We must remember the purpose of God’s reconciliation (22b).

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceChrist did not just rescue us from death; He is delivering us over to an entirely new way of life.

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceAnd I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. (Rev 21:1)

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseveranceholy (22) - cleansed from all sin and separated entirely to God, His service, and His people

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceCan your coworkers or your children or grandchildren tell that what you are living for is radically different from what the world is living for?

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseveranceblameless (22) - without any blemish at all

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceWhat sins are you tolerating in your life that Christ was crucified to cancel?

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverancebeyond reproach (22) - a legal term meaning free from accusation

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceWe will either be the ready bride, or it will be found that we never were a part of Christ’s bride.

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceFor if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life (Romans 5:10)

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance3. We must persevere in the faith which is in accord with the unchanging hope of the gospel (23).

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseverancePerseverance in the faith is proof of saving faith. Vindication on the last day comes to those who do not abandon the faith in this day.

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverancecontinue – to abide, remain, or tarry. For the faith to be the ongoing essence of your life

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceWhen the Holy Spirit transforms us in the hearing of the gospel, God once-and-for-all establishes us in the faith and gives us the ability to be steadfast or immovable in a world that wants to move us away from the hope of the gospel.

Christ is Enough for Purity & Perseverance“Paul wants the Colossians to understand the gospel is the one, universal answer to the quest for spiritual fulfillment.” (Moo, 147)

Christ is Enough for Purity & PerseveranceReal saving faith in Christ continues to take our imperfections to the all-perfect Christ and to ask for His purifying power to change us. Real saving faith in Christ really expresses itself in an ongoing recognition of one’s daily need for Christ.

I Need Thee Every Hour

No tender voice like ThineI need Thee ev’ry hour Most gracious Lord No tender voice like Thine Can peace afford I need Thee O I need Thee Ev’ry hour I need Thee O bless me now my Savior I come to Thee

Temptations lose their pow’rI need Thee ev’ry hour Stay Thou near by Temptations lose their pow’r When Thou art nigh I need Thee O I need Thee Ev’ry hour I need Thee O bless me now my Savior I come to Thee

I need Thee ev’ry hour In joy or pain Come quickly and abide Or life is vain I need Thee O I need Thee Ev’ry hour I need Thee O bless me now my Savior I come to Thee

I need Thee ev’ry hour Teach me Thy will Thy promises so rich In me fulfill I need Thee O I need Thee Ev’ry hour I need Thee O bless me now my Savior I come to Thee

I need Thee ev’ry hour Most Holy One O make me Thine indeed Thou blessed Son I need Thee O I need Thee Ev’ry hour I need Thee O bless me now my Savior I come to Thee

Before the Throne of God

Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea A great High Priest whose name is love Who ever lives and pleads for me My name is graven on His hands My name is written on His heart I know that while in heav’n He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart No tongue can bid me thence depart

When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free For God the Just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me

Behold Him there the risen Lamb My perfect spotless Righteousness The great unchangeable I AM The King of glory and of grace One with Himself I cannot die My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high With Christ my Savior and my God

I bow before the cross of Christ And marvel at this love divine God's perfect Son was sacrificed To make me righteous in God's eyes This river's depths I cannot know But I can glory in its flood The Lord Most High has bowed down low And poured on me His glorious love

The Stand .

You stood before creation You spoke the earth into motionEternity in Your hand You spoke the earth into motion My soul now to stand

You stood before my failureAnd carried the cross For my shame My sin weighed Upon Your shoulders My soul now to stand

But offer this heart O GodSo what can I say And what can I do But offer this heart O God Completely to You

With arms high and heart abandonedSo I'll stand With arms high and heart abandoned In awe of the One Who gave it all

My soul Lord to You surrenderedI'll stand My soul Lord to You surrendered All I am is Yours

With arms high and heart abandonedSo I'll stand With arms high and heart abandoned In awe of the One Who gave it all

My soul Lord to You surrenderedI'll stand My soul Lord to You surrendered All I am is Yours

So I'll walk upon salvation My life to declare Your promiseYour Spirit alive in me My life to declare Your promise My soul now to stand

My faith it is an oaken staff The traveler’s well loved aid My faith it is a weapon stout The soldier’s trusted blade

I’ll travel on and still be stirred by prayerful thought or holy Word By all my perils undeterred A soldier-pilgrim staid

I have a Guide and in His steps When travelers lone have trod If there beneath was flinty rock Or yielding grassy sod

They cared not but with force unspent Unmoved by pain they onward went Unstayed by pleasures still they bent Their zealous course to God

My faith it is an oaken staff O let me on it lean My faith it is a trusty sword May falsehood find it keen

Thy Spirit Lord to me impart O make me what Thou ever art O patient and courageous heart As all true saints have been

Is laid for your faith in What more can He say than to youHow firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word What more can He say than to you He hath said To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled

My faith it is an oaken staff The traveler’s well loved aid

Bowing here I find my rest And without You I fall apart Lord I come - I confess Bowing here I find my rest And without You I fall apart You're the one that guides my heart

Lord I need You – oh, I need You My one defense my righteousnessEvery hour I need You My one defense my righteousness Oh God how I need You

Where grace is found is where You are And where You are Lord I am free Where sin runs deep Your grace is more Where grace is found is where You are And where You are Lord I am free Holiness is Christ in me Where You are Lord I am free

So teach my song to rise to You When temptation comes my way And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You Jesus You're my hope and stay
