3 Introduction of BridgeSavtri river twin Bridges was a old Era bridge developed by the British 100 years ago in Maharashtra.It is built over the River Savtri which connect Mumbai- Goa National Highway .This was express highway two lane each Bridge.
4 Purpose:- When India was under the dominance of British, British Government want a Route to connect Mahad and poladpur . So, in order to go there they have to cross Savitri River which was very difficult in whethery condition.Thus British Engineer in design the bridge in such a way that it was standing still, till It was only route to cross Savitri River..
5 Failure of Bridge The River Savitri’s Catchment area in Mahabaleshwar received heavy rainfall leading to the river swelling.This increases in flow and speed is likely to have caused the bridge to collapse.The Bridge was an old colonial era bridge .There had been a new Bridge built parallel to it but buses trucks and cars continued to use this bridge as state government had not closed it to traffic.
6 The State Government on the hand has maintented that an audit of the bridge was conducted well before the monsoon, but the details of the report was unavailable.Thus it was Summarized,analyzed and pre recorded that the bridge collapsed due the marginful rainfall recorded this year which affected the structure,and not due the false material.
7 Lost of lives... The bridge collapsed around midnight on Tuesday but vechical unable to see that dark,too fell into the river.2 Maharashtra State Road Transport Coorporation(MSRTC)buses where among the vechical scarrying Seventeen passengers in total.12/17 passengers were identified on Wednesday.
8 A Family of Five who live in the city are among them even after hours of searching the rescue team where unable to recover anyone suspected to have been washed away.Three teams of National Disaster Response Force(NDRF),Two helicopters each frome the navy and the Indian coast guard along with Local river Rating teams were carrying out the search and rescue operation.Locals however found the bodies of two men 8 km down stream from the collapse.State authorities includind the Raigad IAS and State public Work minister ,said the bodies were yet to be identified.
9 The Rescue Operation:-A 300 kg magnet mounted on crane was being used by the NDRF to trace the exact location of vehicles washed away in the incident. “Various agencies are innolved in rescue operation in the 30 km strech of river.However so far no vehicle has been found during search operation.Inclement whether made the operation harder..Anupam Srivastav,commandant NDRF(pune)said,the first team comprising of divers ,swimmer,boats and equinment necessary for search operation were taken out.For information of the missing person One act the toll free number 1077 may contact
