2  In English, there is only 1 definite article “the”.  We use “the” when we are talking about a specific item.

3  In Spanish, there are 4 definite articles, but they all mean “the”.  Definite articles in Spanish must agree in number and gender with the noun that comes after it.

4  El- theEX: el chico- the boy  los- the EX: la chica- the girl  la- theEX: los chicos- the boys  Las- the EX: las chicas- the girls

5  El (masculine singular)  Los (masculine plural)  La (feminine singular)  Las (feminine plural)  Examples: el gato, los gatos, la goma, las gomas
