1 How does your media product represent particular social groups?Evaluation Q2
2 Stereotypes - TeenagersTeenagers are seen to be either wild, loud, rebellious, rude or recluses that spend all there time on the internet and video games. These are both negative stereotypes and misrepresent many teenagers. These stereotypes are mainly from older generations that take a certain more widely media represented group of teenagers and class all people in this age group as the same. In my opening sequence I have included some stereotypes but I have avoided any stereotype that includes violence, drug or alcohol use, but have used with the first male character a scene of him playing Xbox what is a stereotype of what male young adult would spend the majority of their time doing. With poppy the female character I have also shown her stereotypically as playing loud music and on her phone. I have done this because these teenagers are digital natives and are multi- screeners. I have also presented Poppy countertype by showing her trying to do work and going outside for a walk and not loitering or spending all her time sat inside on her phone.
3 Stereotype - Genders Male stereotypes – men are seen to be the dominant, strong, working the dirty jobs and are the top of the household. These are all negative stereotypes and many people still think that this is how men are supposed to be. In my opening sequence I have used this stereotype with the masked man by trying to make him seem dominate over poppy and in effect strong. I have also put a sound motif of a deep bass whenever he shows up to show his aggression. I have also used his costume to show his dark aggressive side but putting him in black rather than for example yellow that connotes happiness. The masked man is the antagonist or villain in this opening sequence and using stereotypes we can suggest what this character may be like in the future.. Female stereotypes – woman are seen to be passive, weak, either in the kitchen or home or to be working the clean jobs including nurse or in admin. These are also negative stereotypes but this is slowly starting to change in many ways but some people still think of women in this stereotype. In my opening sequence I have shown Poppy as weak and passive by isolating her in shots and showing her in high angles. I have also not shown her in the kitchen or doing housework to show her as a countertype. In relation to props characters this cliché woman would be seen as the princess as she is the reward of the other characters.
