2 History  Hispanic Americans are residents of the United States who belong to a Spanish speaking ethnic group. The total number of Americans of Hispanic origin continues to climb.

3 1990 census report  the national increase to have passed 22,350,000 or 9% of the U. S. population  in Texas, persons of Hispanic origin number 4,294,120 (25% of a total of 16,986,510)  an expected increase of approximately 21% going into the 21 st century.
