2 Irregular Preterite  There are several irregular verbs in the preterite. In this presentation, we’ll take a look at the most important ones.

3 SER- TO BE / IR – TO GO  ser & ir> fu- –yo fui –tú fuiste –él fue –nosotros fuimos –ellos fueron

4 Hacer- To do or to make  hacer > hic- –yo hice –tú hiciste –**él hizo** –nosotros hicimos –ellos hicieron  It’s like the other irregular preterites, except it makes a spelling change in the él form: –hic- > hiz-

5 QUERER – TO WANT  querer > quis-  yo quise –tú quisiste –él quiso –nosotros quisimos –ellos quisieron

6 DECIR- TO SAY OR TO TELL  decir> dij-  Yo dije –tú dijiste –él dijo –nosotros dijimos –ellos dijeron

7 ESTAR- TO BE ESTAR > ESTUV- yo estuve tú estuviste él estuvo nosotros estuvimos ellos estuvieron

8 Poder- To be able to  Poder > PUD –Yo pude –tú pudiste –Él pudo –Nosotros pudimos –Ellos pudieron

9 ESTAR- TO BE  estar > estuv- –yo estuve –tú estuviste –él estuvo –nosotros estuvimos –ellos estuvieron  Hey, no accent marks!

10 TENER- TO HAVE TENER > TUV- yo tuve tú tuviste él tuvo nosotros tuvimos ellos tuvieron

11 Poder- To be able to  Poder > PUD –Yo pude –tú pudiste –Él pudo –Nosotros pudimos –Ellos pudieron

12 SABER- TO KNOW > SABER -> SUP yo supe tú supiste él supo nosotros supimos ellos supieron

13 Traer- to bring traer> traj yo traje tú trajiste él trajo nosotros trajimos ellos trajeron

14 DAR- TO GIVE DAR > DI yo di tú diste él dio nosotros dimos ellos dieron
