6 IHE is the foundation of health information exchange in the USA and globally. IHE lays the foundation for interoperability in the U.S. and globally. The map shows some of the deployments of IHE in the U.S.  This list just touches the surface of the impact IHE in the U.S. Health IT Systems built in accordance with IHE Profiles enable seamless and secure exchange of health information for both providers and patients across the U.S. and globe.

7 Development Committees Deployment CommitteesTurkey IHE International’s 12 deployment committees reviews real-world patient care needs in their area of expertise and writes standard-based interoperability solutions that can be applied at a global level. These twelve domains publish new IHE Profiles on an annual basis, relying on  industry consensus and ISO accredited processes.  The comprehensive profiles are organized into IHE Technical Frameworks that are published per domain and which serve as the underpinning for testing at the IHE NA Connectathon. IHE USA is a deployment committee focused on implementation of IHE Profiles in the US and works in collaboration with US health IT stakeholders including the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), government health agencies (e.g., OPA, CDC), Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), and Standards Development Organizations (SDO) to advance interoperability in the US. As part of our deployment activities, we sponsor and manage the IHE North American Connectathon. IHE International has 20+ regional and national deployment committees like IHE USA that work in their regional area to deploy IHE profiles and  hold  connectathons based on the same IHE profiles and using the same testing process. 200+ Members Organizations

20 What is an IHE Connectathon?Participants test the interoperability of their systems based on IHE Profiles and U.S. Based Initiatives including C-CDA documents and Cancer Reporting over five days Peer-to-Peer testing is live, structured, and supervised Industry members collaborate in a neutral testing environment IHE’s technical management team & trained industry professionals oversee all testing Week also includes Plug-a-thons, networking and educational events to advance interoperability An IHE Connectathon is a live, cross-vendor, supervised and structured testing event where vendors test implementations of IHE Profiles and other U.S. based initiatives including Consolidated CDA® documents and Cancer Reporting Tests are evaluated on interoperability and conformance to IHE Profiles Testing is overseen by our technical managers and team of trained monitors But, in reality, you have to see it to fully understand. IHE Connectathons offer an unparalleled opportunity for interoperability testing and problem resolution, which is why hundreds of the industry’s top developers come to work in collaboration for the week. The CAT testing floor is a neutral, non-competitive environment making it a safe place to fail and debug your systems before implementing the system live at a clinical site. Industry members site side by side exchanging full logging details on the CAT floor because everyone is focused on making their systems exchange data. We’ve used the word intense to describe the testing floor and we do mean it. IHE Connectathons are challenging and they require a level commitment and preparedness in order to be successful. We don’t say that to discourage you but inform and prepare you for the challenge. Today’s webinar will help you key to your success so you are headed on the right path.

46 HIMSS Interoperability Showcase at HIMSS18HIMSS Interoperability Showcase – a premier 34,000-square-foot exhibition that displays, in real time, the exchange and use of data through interoperability profiles and standards with live products currently in the marketplace. For those of you who are new I would like to welcome you and introduce you to what makes up the Interoperability Showcase. 34,000 square feet pavilion, which is about the size of a football filed. This area is packed with around 20 vignettes or demonstration areas, a large education theater, a product market place, and more! Our mission is to demonstrate the power of standards based interoperability by demonstrating in real time the exchange and use of data through interoperability profiles and standards with live products currently in the marketplace. We hope to provide attendees a broad picture of the opportunities and successes in this community and therefore try to provide demonstrations in a variety of topic area. So what is a use case, which is the largest footprint within the Interoperability Showcase? These are demonstrations 6-8 Vendors who collaborate together. Each organization will bring their own perspective and story to tell, which makes each use case one-of-a-kind. Vendors collaborate with HIMSS and other organizations to develop unique use cases that explore the value of their interoperability solutions. These use cases travel to multiple locations and highlight many value statements within one story, highlighting the value of coordinated care. Demonstrations also place the solutions in clinical context, allowing visitors to engage in the interoperability story of an individual – such as a caregiver, patient or clinician. They can then witness the impact these systems have on clinical outcomes, quality and the patient experience. *HIMSS18 Interoperability Showcase Details

47 At HIMSS18 We Seek to… Demonstrate standards-based technology that improves access to and exchange of information to improve outcomes and enable continuity of care Goal of 8,234 unique attendees (5% increase from FY17) 25 Education sessions We support standard based technology by demonstrating exchanges in real time that support continuity of care and improve outcomes. Organizations collaborate to highlight the unique value their products and systems provide and improve communication. At conference these organizations demonstrate and connect with decisions makers and influencers to discuss their problems and solutions. This bidirectional discussion allows for enhanced learning and meaningful networking.

48 HIMSS17 Interoperability Showcase Impact19 Connected demonstrations: 117 systems representing 66 organizations 380 schedule demonstrations of standard based interoperability 21 VIP or specialty tours, including the Dutch Minister of Health and the Nursing and Physician communities. 35 vendor whitepapers and 8 vendor blogs developed 22 education sessions with over 1,500 attendees 1.9M reached through social media Over 10,000 visitors were scanned entering the Interoperability Showcase 7,482 of those were unique (Demographics available on our website) ⅔ of our attendees were decision makers/decision influencers HIMSS17 Interoperability Showcase Accomplishments

49 Average length of time spent in the HIMSS ShowcaseBased on wireless data- We were able to capture information about the wireless devices within the Showcase At any given time during exhibit hours, on average 1,400 individual devices spent minutes in the Showcase, 1,300 individual devices spent over an hour! These numbers come from our network system. From our network, we know that around 331 devices where connected, or had the password to our network on a daily basis. This would be staff and participants most likely. On a daily average we had over 4,000 devices where who did not have this password which supports our other data. You can see from the above that on a daily basis about 316 devices were in the showcase for over 6 hours. This would most likely be our participants. The rest would be other wireless devices and their “dwell time” or time spent in the showcase on average was over 20 minutes. Cisco-Meraki- no one plugged in

In light of this please consider these “drafts” including their titles, which will be revisited in the winter after participation has been set. We consider this project a collaboration with our participants, much like how interoperability is a collaboration. This year we asked for feedback from stakeholders this past spring on the Use cases they would like to see at the Interoperability Showcase. You may see some new use cases being suggested based on that feedback and we want to thank the more than 20 organizations who submitted suggestions. We hope that you join us. Without your participation the solution that your product and service provides cannot be covered during a demonstration, which leaves the story incomplete.
