28 Tema: Exploración del lenguajeFinal Jeopardy Tema: Exploración del lenguaje Place your wagers. Pregunta: What is a diminutive? Give two examples. Final Jeopardy is optional. Feel free to use a question that is more appropriate for your class. ¿Listos? Respuesta: Adding the suffix “ito (a)” to a word to give it the meaning “small” or “little” (perrito, hermanita). It can also be used to show affection (abuelita, Evita).
29 Game Play Options: -I often tailor a class game of jeopardy based on the size of the class. I also like to use Individual dry erase boards for students to use to write the answers. Some Playing Options: Play individually or as pairs One student (or pair) chooses the category (disregarding point value). All students answer the question. All students that answer correctly on their first try receive one point. The student that answers correctly first receives a bonus point. (They enjoy the racing aspect of the competition.) Have the students who elect the point value and answer correctly receive the full amount of points. Any other student who answers correctly receives half of the point value. This keeps everyone participating. Divide the class in two. All students write the answers on whiteboards and hold them up. The team with the person with the first correct answer is awarded the points for that question. If the class is smaller, you can have only the student choosing the category answer the question. The only issue I find with this is that I often lose the attention of the other students and they do not end up getting a thorough review if they are not actively using their brains too. I will sometimes pair them up in this case. If you do not have individual whiteboards, you can purchase them for a very reasonable price at dollar stores. If you have three, you can have three teams and have students alternate group members for each question. Or simply use the blackboard for students to write answers.
30 Winning the game: -Students with the highest amount of points win. Sometimes I give a couple points on the test. Candy or cultural items are also a favorite among students. I usually give out stickers as prizes, which students can accumulate to use for homework passes. (See my Sticker Incentive Program freebie by clicking here) Using the PowerPoint To get the answer for the question tap the screen. To go back to the main screen click the arrows. Alternate Usage: Use as task cards -Print the slides 2/page in pure black and white. -Cut off the answers and number them from 1 to 25. Make Final Jeopardy number 26 or simply omit. -Hang them around the room, scatter them on desks or have them circulate with a time limit. -Have students answer on the answer sheet on the following page. (Note this is a general sheet and does not account for questions with more than once answer.) You can give them a time limit or allow them all to finish. -I will occasionally award prizes (see above) for most correct answers. -I also sometimes allow them to work with a partner to spice it up, but both must complete sheet. -You can use this slideshow to go over correct answers.
