1 Latitude and Longitude ► The earth is divided into lots of lines called latitude and longitude.

3 Where is 0 degree? ► The equator is 0 degree latitude. ► It is an imaginary belt that runs halfway point between the North Pole and the South Pole. Where the earth is widest. Equator

7 Hemispheres ► By using the equator and prime meridian, we can divide the world into four hemispheres, north, south, east, and west.

9 Time Zones Time Zones ► There are 24 time zones in the world. ► You enter into a new time zone every 15* Longitude.  As you move West, you “lose” an hour every new time zone. ► Always remember… going to Mississippi is like going back in time ► Always remember… going to Mississippi is like going back in time  This is true until you reach the international dateline, at which point you actually gain 24 hours ► The idea behind this is to make it Noon when the sun is at its peak no matter where you are in the world.
