22 ¿Cómo podemos incluir a todo pre-escolar?Children are holistic learners. They are always getting lessons we do not mean to teach. Past years, we had so much fun with Halloween—but noticed some children didn’t come to school. Upon speaking to parents of those children, discovered they believed the holiday was evil—what kind of message does that give a child- it’s confusing to have two such opposing views from people so important in a 3 or 4 year old’s life: teachers and parents.— Even with holidays that most Americans celebrate, families vary according to their traditions. Some families teach their child about Santa Claus, others feel it commercializes a religious holiday and don’t want any part of that. As a state funded agency, we stay away from promoting any one religion. Birthdays are also not celebrated by everyone. Think about what goes on in a child’s mind if he sees other children celebrated with cupcakes and song, and for whatever reason, his birthday never gets acknowledged… At the same time, teachers have conversations about what they do at home. Time is of the essence too—we need 40 hours per week—have 15! Días festivos en casa: Descubrimientos en la escuela!
