2 Research aims To evaluate the existing evidence base for Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) using systematic reviews and evidence synthesis To explore ways of defining best practice in CHM using Delphi, Nominal Group Technique, and the Five Phases Model. To develop novel rigorous mixed methods methodologies to test the effectiveness of CHM, with a particular focus on treatments for anti-microbial resistance. To pilot these methodologies and investigate the feasibility of running clinical trials within a Western primary care setting To conduct larger definitive trials of CHM for use within primary care.
