SOMETIMES: Science and Social Studies projects will occasionally be assigned. 8 2nd Grade Tests and GradingWord Work Assessment-Students will be taking a Word Work Assessment two or three times per grading period. Students will be notified in advance of tests in other content areas. Progress Reports-Each student will receive a progress report midway through each grading period. District Math Assessment will be given on-line this year. Fact Fluency Assessments are given at the end of each grading period. Reading Level Assessments and I-SIP Assessments will be given at the BOY, MOY, and EOY.

9 Exámenes y grados de 2do GradoExamen de “Trabajo con Palabras” – Estos exámenes se les darán a los estudiantes de dos a tres veces en el periodo de nueve semanas. Se le avisará a los estudiantes de cualquier otro examen en otras materias. Reporte de progreso- cada estudiante recibirá uno a la mitad del periodo de nueve semanas. El examen de matemáticas del distrito de KISD será dado por computadora este año. Los exámenes de fluidez con operaciones matemáticas se darán al final de cada periodo de 9 semanas. El examen de I-SIP español se dará al comienzo, mitad, y fin de año.

10 MPE Retest/Redo ProcedureThe belief of Katy ISD is that a student should have the benefit of continuous opportunities to learn and that a student’s mastery level shall be a major factor in determining the grade for a subject.  Teachers are required to post the actual score earned by a student in TAC. Refer to handout for specific guidelines. MPE Retake Reteach Policy copy will be provided.

11 MPE Procedimiento de retoma de exámenesKaty ISD cree que cada estudiante tiene el beneficio de tener varias oportunidades para aprender y que el nivel de dominio de un estudiante prevalece para determinar el grado en cada materia.  Los maestros deben colocar la calificación real obtenida por el estudiante en el sistema . Puede encontrar mas información en el panfleto del distrito. MPE repartirá la póliza de procedimiento de retoma de examines.

12 “THE PANTHER PLANNER” Students will keep a planner.Every morning they will enter the room and unpack. The assignments will be written on the board. Students are responsible for writing due dates and assignments. Parents are encouraged to review the planner nightly. It is a great way to see what your child has for homework and upcoming tests. Planners will be checked. A Second Grade Weekly Newsletter will also be provided on Monday.

13 Seguimiento del tiempo “El diario de la pantera”Los estudiantes mantendrán una agenda. Cada mañana entrarán al salón y sacarán todo de la mochila. Las actividades estarán escritas en el pizarrón. Los estudiantes son responsables de escribir las tareas y fechas de entrega. Se le pide a los padres que revisen la agenda a diario para asegurarse que el estudiante cumpla con las tareas y saber qué cosas quedan pendientes. Boletines semanales se mandaran los lunes .

14 Wednesday Folder Students will be using a blue folder for their Homework. On Wednesday, a Panther folder will be sent home. Important PTA, school information, and upcoming events will be placed in the folder. Please review your child’s folder and return it the following day. Contact the teacher if there are any concerns via , written note, or a phone call.

15 Información de los miércolesLos estudiantes usaran una carpeta azul para la tarea. Los estudiantes llevarán a la casa el “Panther Update” los días miércoles con información importante de la PTA, la escuela, y otros eventos. Por favor revise la información. 16 Reading We are currently evaluating each students reading level. Your children will be tested and their reading levels will be determined. Students will be placed in Guided Reading groups and will participate in Reader’s Workshop. Students will be reading leveled readers and various types of literature throughout the year. Groups change as students move up a level. Your child will be aware of their level. Shared Reading, Reading Response Journals, Poetry, and a Read Aloud are also part of our Balanced Literacy Program.

17 Lectura En este momento estamos evaluando el nivel de lectura de cada estudiante. Su hijo será evaluado y su nivel será determinado. Los estudiantes se reunirán en grupos de lectura dirigida. La lectura dirigida será calificada con una rúbrica que será enviada a casa. Su hijo sabrá su nivel de lectura. Los grupos de lectura pueden cambiar según los progresos del estudiante. 18 Math Math Warm-ups, Target the Question, or Exemplar Math Problems will be used this year. Math Assessments will be given throughout the year. Fact Fluency and Number Talks are part of our day. Manipulatives will be used in the classroom. Students will use a Math Journal. It is a student notebook used to work out math problems and record notes. Math and Technology will be incorporated Students are encouraged to practice their Fact Fluency, addition & subtraction.

20 Word Work and Writing Word Work is practiced in class on a daily basis through a variety of activities. Writer’s Workshop-Students will have a writing folder in class. On Mondays, students will be given writing homework. It will be due on Fridays. One week in English, and the other one in Spanish.

21 Trabajo de palabras y escrituraEl trabajo de palabras se practica en clase diariamente por medio de diferentes actividades. Taller de Escritura- Los estudiantes tendrán una carpeta para colectar sus escrituras. Los lunes los estudiantes tendrán una tarea de escritura para entregar los Viernes. 22 Science and Social StudiesIn Science, we will start the school year with indentifying the important organs of the body and health concepts. We will do Science experiments and visit the science lab. In Social Studies, we will focus on geography, the importance of a community, and our nation’s history.

24 Library and Computer TimesWe visit the library every__________! Please remember to pack library books the evening before. We encourage students to pick books on their level and from different genres. Students will have a computer lesson each week. Our computer time is on _____________.

25 Biblioteca y ComputadoraVisitamos la biblioteca cada semana. Por favor recuerde de colocar en la mochila el libro de la biblioteca la noche anterior. Horario de biblioteca: martes (Vasquez) y miercoles (Boeker) a la 1:55 p.m. Le pedimos a los estudiantes que elijan libros que estén a su nivel de lectura y de varios géneros, uno en inglés y uno en español. Los estudiantes tendrán una lección de computadora cada semana. Nuestro horario de computadora es miércoles (Vasquez) y martes (Boeker) de 9:50-10:35 a.m.

26 Important InformationWay Home-a student must have a note from a parent to make any changes in their transportation home. Each student should have a transportation tag attached to their backpack. It indicates the primary way a student goes home. Any changes need to be approved and a special change of transportation note will be given to the student that day. Absences-Students need to bring a signed and dated note including an explanation of the absence upon return to school. Birthdays-Students can bring cupcakes, or package bought cookies. We will distribute them at recess. Family Connection Sheet will be sent home upon request. Please inform the nurse of any allergies. Lunch money-Please hand in all money in an envelope with student name, teacher name, grade level, and amount written on the outside.

27 Información ImportanteDebe enviar una nota escrita si el estudiante va a tener cualquier cambio en su manera de irse a casa. Los estudiantes que se van en carro deben tener una identificación con su número. Esto indica como el estudiante llega a casa. Cualquier cambio se requiere aprobación y cambios especiales de transportación se harán. Una notificación se le dará al estudiante ese día. En caso de ausencia, el estudiante debe traer una nota con firma, fecha y explicación de su ausencia apenas regrese a la escuela. En los cumpleaños, el estudiante puede traer pastelitos (cupcakes) o galletas enpacadas. Estas serán repartidas durante el recreo. La hoja de conexiones familiares se enviará a solicitud de los padres. Por favor avise a la enfermera cualquier caso de alergias. Dinero del almuerzo-Por favor envíe el dinero en un sobre identificado con el nombre del estudiante, maestro, grado, y cantidad de dinero.

28 Restroom Breaks/Snacks/Water BottlesRestroom Breaks-we have one scheduled break and students can go throughout the day for emergencies. Snack-Please send a healthy snack daily with your child. Snack time is at 10:00. Water Bottles- Water bottles can be brought by the students to keep them hydrated during the day.

29 Baños/Merienda/Botellas de aguaTenemos programado ir al baño una vez al día. El estudiante también podrá ir en cualquier momento por emergencias. Merienda-Por favor envíe una merienda saludable todos los días. La merienda es a las 10:00. Botellas de agua- Se permite traer botellas de agua para que los estudiantes se mantengan hidratados durante el día.

30 Discipline and ConductOur classroom is a small community where working as a team and forming respectful relationships is encouraged. Students are held accountable for keeping track of their assignments and keeping all materials organized, including their desks. Panther Principles for Second Grade are in a red laminated folder. The student will bring their behavior card home everyday for parents to check.

31 Disciplina y Conducta Nuestro salón es una pequeña comunidad donde se espera que todos trabajen en equipo y sean respetuosos con los demás. Se espera que los estudiantes estén pendientes de sus tareas y de mantener sus materiales y escritorio organizado. El Principio de Las Panteras se encuentra en la carpeta roja que está laminada. Los estudiantes llevarán a casa su tarjeta de conducta todos los días para que los padres la puedan revisar.

32 Panther Principles Students are expected to follow the Panther Principles. The three main rules are posted in every classroom: I will keep my hands, feet, and objects to myself and speak respectfully to others. I will come to class prepared and ready to learn. I will follow directions the first time given.

36 Character Counts We celebrate a character trait each month. This month is green for initiative. The animal of the month is the beaver. We encourage students to wear the color of the month on the first Thursday of each month. Bystander Shirts are given to students who demonstrate “I’ve got your back.” We also select a Panther of the Month.

37 Modales que valen Continuaremos con los “Modales que valen” a través del año escolar. Este mes empezamos con el color verde que representa la iniciativa. El mascota de el mes el castor. Queremos animar a nuestros estudiantes a vestirse con el color del mes el primer jueves de cada mes. Las camisetas de Bystander se les dará a los estudiantes que demuestran que siempre están dispuestos a ayudar a un amigo. También seleccionamos a una Pantera del Mes.

38 Safety in school and playgroundAll visitors need to have an ID. Students aren’t allowed to open the doors to any adult. Proper shoes should be worn for P.E. days. Playground rules need to be respected and followed. Walk in the hallways and classrooms.

39 Seguridad en la escuela y el recreoTodos los visitantes necesitan tener identificación. Los estudiantes no pueden abrir la puerta a ningún adulto.
