1 SPRING SHADOWS ELEMENTARYSchool Visitations We welcome your visits to Spring Shadows! For the safety & security of our children, you must sign in at the front office. Your driver license or picture ID will be scanned and you will be given a nametag for your visit. Lunch Visits: Parents are invited to eat lunch with their children but we ask that you limit this to Wednesday or Friday only. During this visit, you may not pull others, only your child. We provide picnic seating in two locations. On bad weather days, we will not be able to accommodate lunch visits. Lunch drop-off: Parents are welcome to bring lunch for their child when they are eating with them, but we cannot accept lunches that are dropped off in the front office. Due to limited staffing and the protection of instructional time. If you want to provide lunch for your child, please send it in their backpack in the morning. Students who forget their lunch will be provided a free lunch in our cafeteria. Parents who bring a lunch will be asked kindly to save it at home and send it with the child the next day. Parties: Only parents/legal guardians may attend class parties. Preschool children may attend with parents, but school-aged student must remain in their class. Playground: For safety reasons, visitors will not be allowed on the playground during school hours. Classroom Observations: Observations must be coordinated through the principal’s office and scheduled in advance. All volunteers in SBISD schools must be cleared through our Community Relations Office. You can apply online at under the community tab. If you need technology assistance, please call Yezenia Rangel Zapata-Briones at Attendance: Attendance is taken at 9:00 am. Students who leave school prior to 9:00 are marked absent for the day. Students who arrive after 9:00 are also marked absent, but we prefer they come anyway. According to the law parents must send a note to the school within 48 hours explaining the absence. Absences due to illness, medical appointments, death in the immediate family, and official school business are marked as excused absences. All other reasons will be marked unexcused. Our truancy office maintains accurate records. Parents will receive letters notifying them of excessive absences and tardies. If no correction is made, the family may be referred to the courts for formal intervention. Tardies: Children who arrive after 7:30 are tardy. At this time, children must be signed in by the parent in the main office and a tardy slip will be issued so that the child may enter class. Parents of children who are habitually late will be required to meet with the administrator to write a correction plan. Early Departure: If you need to pick your child up early, please enter the office and sign your child out. Upon your arrival, we will call the child to the office. All early pick-up must occur prior to 1:45 pm as some students are not in their homerooms after this time. Who Can Help You? Ms. Gasca – After School Arrivals and Departures Arrival: Students should NOT arrive prior to 6:50 am as we cannot guarantee supervision. As students arrive, they should enter in the side gate and report to the cafeteria if the will be eating the FREE BREAKFAST provided. After breakfast, students report to their holding areas. Those not eating breakfast should report directly to their holding areas with a library book. Parent Drive – All students who will be picked-up/dropped off in a vehicle must enter and use the parent lane…no exceptions. Parents must register their child for parent pick-up in the front office and hang their tag daily. Parents without tags must come in the office to sign their child out. Bus Riders: Riding the SBISD school bus is a privilege. Student must turn in a yellow bus contract and abide by the safety and conduct guidelines to maintain these privileges. Change of Transportation: If you must change your child’s transportation, please send a note with your signature. For your child’s safety, we cannot make changes over the phone. There is no way to verify the identity of the caller. In addition, changes cannot by made after 1:45 pm. Change of Address or Phone Number Please keep your address & phone numbers up to date in the school office at all times. Changes can be made in writing or by calling the front office. In case of an emergency, we must be able to contact you!
2 Birthdays Invitations: Students may pass out invitations as long is EVERYONE in the class will be receiving one. Balloons and Flowers: We do not allow the delivery of gifts such as flowers and balloons to the classroom. We must be cautious with the many allergies on file. Cupcakes/Drinks: You may bring cupcake and drinks for your child on his/her birthday. A full meal is not allowed as we must protect instructional time. Please remember that the cupcakes must be store bought. They cannot be served before/during the scheduled lunch. Please give the teacher a 24 hr. notice so you can coordinate a appropriate time for both of you. Celebrations may not exceed 15 min. Student Dress Code Appropriate student dress and grooming are important factors in the safe and orderly operation of schools. Each student’s appearance should reflect a positive image for the child and the school. In addition, it should contribute to a distraction-free learning environment. Spring Shadows strictly enforces a standardized dress policy. Tops: Solid navy, dark green, yellow, red, and white polo type shirts are allowed Monday - Friday Spring Shadows spirit shirts are allowed on Friday’s. Collegiate t-shirts are allowed on Wednesday’s only with Jeans. Bottoms: Solid navy, khaki or blue denim pants, shorts, skirts and dresses are allowed Monday – Friday. All shorts, skirts and dresses should measure below the students fingertips when arms are at sides. Tights and leggings are allowed under skirts and dresses only. Shoes: Students should wear rubber soled tennis shoes daily. Cleats or shoes with wheels are not allowed. Head Coverings: Hats, scarves, and other head coverings are prohibited unless for religious reasons. Students are not to share headwear for hygiene reasons. Makeup/Jewelry: Makeup is highly discouraged at the elementary level. Students should wear minimal jewelry for safety reasons. Hoop earring must be smaller than ¼ in. Personal Items Eyeglasses: Students who wear prescription eyeglasses are expected to wear them daily. Students who forget their glasses will be asked to call home as this impedes their learning. Please drop glasses off in the front office & we will deliver them. Lunches/Homework: Students will not be allowed to call home for forgotten lunches or homework. Students who forget their lunch will be provided with a free cafeteria lunch. Students who do not bring homework will respectfully accept the logical consequence provided by the teacher. Toys/Trinkets: Students are not allowed to bring toys or trinkets to school. Small items which fit in pockets are distractions. Any item brought to school will be taken up by the homeroom teacher. Parents are welcome to pick it up. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated to a local charity. Recess Equipment: Students are not allowed to bring a ball, bat, or glove to school for recess. Spring Shadows cannot be held responsible for any damaged or missing items. Hand Sanitizer: Students should not bing personal hand sanitizer to school ; student have access to hand sanitizer throughout the building. Buying and Selling Items: Students are not permitted to buy or sell any items at school except for school sponsored activities and events. Homework All students at Spring Shadows will have homework by the third week of school. Homework teaches personal responsibility, reinforces prior learning and gives parents a window into the classroom. The amount and type of homework will vary by grade level. Watch for your student’s homework contract in the Friday Folder. We ask that both you and your child sign this agreement at the beginning of the year. Accurate completion of homework is required by all. Students who repeatedly choose not to do homework will receive an N in conduct making them ineligible for Honor Roll and other special awards. Our teachers commit to reviewing the homework and returning it to you. We ask that each of you commit to supporting your child and the school with homework. Medication Policy SBISD policy does not allow any personnel to administer medication of any kind. The nurse or a trained designee can dispense medication under certain conditions. Students are not allowed to carry prescription or non prescription medication at any time. ALL medication must be delivered by the parent or guardian to the nurse. Some exceptions are made for inhalers and insulin. Please speak to the nurse to see if this is applicable to your child. Non-prescription medication will be given to a student when necessary upon receiving a written request with specific instructions. SBISD has a specific form and it must be signed by the parent and the medicine must be in it’s original packaging. Prescription medication must also be in the original container, properly labeled with the child’s name, the drug name, and directions for time of administration and dosage. Prescription meds requires a form signed by both the parent &doctor. This form can be obtained from the nurse. When the period for administering the medication has expired, the parent/legal guardian must come to pick up the medication. Students may not carry medication to & from school Code of Conduct The SBISD Student Code of Conduct is available online via the district’s website on the parents tab You will be required to sign an acknowledgement form once a year. Once you have signed, you and your child agree to follow all policies within.
