2 Talking about weather Discussing the weather is a very human thing to do, and every language has its own way of doing it. If you think about it, the weather is one thing that is certainly a universal topic of interest. It’s a topic that’s discussed at all levels of society, no matter your color, religion, or socioeconomic status.

8 Talking about the weather in English. It’s hot out. It’s nice out. It’s windy. It’s snowing. It’s raining. It’s sunny. It’s cold out.

9 Note that in English… To talk about the weather, we usually say… It’s…(some weather word)…

10 How do we do it in Spanish? Abran el libro en la pág. 18 y discutan como decir el tiempo.

11 First off… Note that the word “tiempo” here does not refer to time, but to weather. It does NOT refer to what time it is. That word is la hora.

12 Hace… Note that most phrases for weather do use the phrase “Hace…” “Hace” comes from the verb hacer, which means “to do” or “to make”. In an overly literal sense, you think about what the weather is making, instead of what it is. Note that two phrases, llueve and nieva, do NOT use the “hace” phrase.
