12 You should know… In 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, thus involving the United States in World War II. Sahomi Tachibana was born in 1924 as a United States citizen. Despite this status, she and her family were moved to an internment camp during World War II as a rash of fear spread across the nation following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On Ellis Island, some of the actual apartments from the Japanese internment camps are on display.
