3 To introduce and become familiar with a number of Free Web 2.0 Toolsto support teaching and personalize learning for students in classrooms and libraries across Virginia.

4 Why Use Web 2.0 Tools? Highly engaging activities that are fun for learners Leads to collaboration and problem based learning Instruction is automatically diversified because the teacher can spend time with those who need it. Allows students to create their own content and develop sophisticated projects Create virtual extensions of classrooms Students become intrinsically motivated to learn The Effective Use of Technology = Student Achievement [TECHNOLOGY + SUPPORT]

5 SCALE: I can identify more than three Web2.0 Tools and can use at least two of them in my instructional practice. I can identify at least 2 Web 2.0 sites and can use them in at least one way in my instructional practice. 7 Padlet Makes posting things on the Internet as easy as pinning notes on a bulletin board. Using the idea of a blank piece of paper, you can put whatever you want on your wall by dragging and dropping documents and images from your desktop, copying and pasting links to websites or videos or just typing notes on your page. When you finish posting things to your wall you will be able to collaborate with others using a unique URL as well as through a variety of social networks. 8 Photos for Class Safe images that are available to be used in the classroom and for educational purposes. Has built in filters and uses Flikr Safe Search so all images are appropriate for school settings, and licensed by Creative Commons for public use. Downloaded images automatically cite the author and the image license terms. Grades K-12 

9 Pear Deck Live presentation and slides from the teacher to the students in the classroom. Students can respond to pre-planned or impromptu questions from the teacher or librarian. Question types are only limited by your imagination. Draw it out, ask in a multiple choice format, or take it further if you wish. Students can respond anonymously or with their names, in real time in the classroom. Gain reports, map out responses, and show the class their answers. Grades: 3-12

10 Biteable An easy three-step animated video maker that lets the user choose from animation styles, upload pictures, select and change font, colors, and text. Final videos can be ed and shared. Easy to use templates which are updated and added to frequently. A great addition to your digital storytelling toolbox. Grades K-12

11 Toon Doo Create comic strips using a wide range of integrated templates that include many carton figures, voice bubbles, and more. Upload your own photos and create your own characters. For longer stories, create a TOONBOOK instead of a single TOONDOO strip. The ability to save and print your comic strips is a fun experience that is engaging and a great way to hook students into writing. Grades 4-12

12 Symbaloo Create, find, and share visually appealing Webmixes (web based screens of link "tiles") to share web resources. Customize your own online start page to organize and access your favorites easily and quickly. Drag and drop items to organize them in a way that is convenient and practical.

13 QUIZIZZ Gamifies and enlivens quizzes teachers can assign in class or for homework. The upbeat environment allows for optional music, immediate feedback, timers, and fun memes. You can create your own quizzes or borrow and modify from an extensive bank of existing quizzes. After students take quizzes, you can view and download results to Excel. Excellent for formative assessments, checking for understanding, and exit tickets! Grades: K-12

14 Edueto Create online activities in a wide variety of formats, including multiple choice, gap filling, matching, free form writing, sorting, equations, picture tagging, sequencing, geometric shapes, and surveys. Create your own or borrow and modify from the extensive site bank. Organize students in classes and download reports. Grades: K-12 

15 Tween Tribune High interest, reputable current events articles compiled by the Smithsonian. Articles are categorized by grade, lexile, language (English/Spanish), and subject area. Each article is available across multiple lexiles for differentiation and has an associated comprehension assessment. Free educator accounts offer a plethora of features: Monday morning newsletters, class and student profiles, lesson plans, article assignment capability, and assessment score grade books. Privacy is protected, and all comments are educator-moderated. Grades K-12

16 Google Arts & Culture / TreksGoogle Art project allows students to take virtual art field trips around the world, to create and share galleries, attend live 360 degree performances from prestigious locations and discover cultural treasures. Historic Moments contains online exhibits of primary sources and artifacts. Visit world landmarks, discover natural wonders, and step inside locations such as museums, arenas, restaurants and small businesses with 360-degree images on Google Maps. Great with Google Cardboard! Grades K-12

17 The goal of using web 2.0 toolsin your classroom, is to use technology seamlessly so that the technology itself is an invisible support of the learning of a standards- based curriculum.
