3 The modern enterprise has evolved…Remote Sites Dynamic Evolving with new applications, data types and business models, emergence of flash Public Cloud Mobile Distributed Unique requirements for mobile, cloud, virtualization, remote offices In the past few years modern enterprises evolved in order to keep up with the new trends: virtualization, mobility, cloud, big data, all underscored by the enormous data growth. To adjust to this new reality, enterprises had to become more dynamic so that they can keep up with modern virtualized applications and new data types More distributed so that they can better meet the requirements of the increasingly mobile, flexible workforce that increasingly works from remote offices. More and more data resides in remote offices and it is often not sufficiently protected. And they had to be always-on, always available in order to better serve the modern workforce with mobile devices in remote locations. 24/7 operations obsoleted data protection as it used to be, eliminating long/regular backup windows and scheduled maintenance downtimes and brought about zero tolerance for downtime ORCL SQL Virtualization Applications, Files, Databases Flash Storage Always-On Zero tolerance for downtime. 4 …but enterprise data protection has notRemote Sites Unpredictable Zero planning window for rapid spikes in demand. No tolerance for manual processes Public Cloud Mobile Isolated 10+ separate production, protection, archive systems for DC, ROBO, Virtualization, etc. But the enterprise IT, specifically the data protection function, which Gartner says is one of the most critical priorities, is lagging in some organizations and often can’t support these new requirements. Traditional approach is ineffective. Many storage and data protection solutions are based on old inflexible architectures, they are unpredictable and can’t accommodate spikes in demand, isolated and siloed, with a limited ability to scale capacity and performance, often requiring a forklift upgrade to replace. And consequently, they are exposed, with data at risk. Yet the challenge you have is that the IT organization has to be dynamic and agile to not only grow with the business but to allow the business to effectively respond to the market. 5 What are today’s data protection challengesMore pressure to prevent downtime $6.5M $336K Online brokerage per hour Industry average cost for 1 hour High cost of legacy infrastructure Cost $ Risk Complexity So what are today’s data protection challenges? combination of growing data complexity, sprawl and growing data volume is forcing IT to rethink traditional approaches to backup and recovery. Pressure to prevent or eliminate downtime is growing, the legacy infrastructure is costly and complex to sustain; more virtualized applications cause VM sprawl, all while SLAs become more rigorous and the budgets are flat. As the speed, variety and complexity of data continue to accelerate, so do the risks of not being able to timely restore critical systems and applications in cases of disasters or data loss. IT managers have a choice of what to do next: Deploy more software or hardware point products to alleviate a specific problem, or they can take a long-term view and invest in an integrated, unified architecture. Application modernization VM sprawl IT managers have a choice: Deploy more software or hardware point products, or Invest in an integrated, unified architecture VM VM Data center consolidation Demanding SLAs

6 Point data protection products vs. a single integrated solutionPoint products A unified, integrated solution Single management console Storage Single support Physical Servers Virtual Servers Application Files and Databases Remote Offices Data Center and Remote Offices Let’s look at the point solutions. As a reaction to the increasing complexity of the IT infrastructure – heterogeneous servers, physical and virtual and wide range of applications – the easiest and fastest response has often been to add a point solution to address it immediately. There are many situations where backup admins manage their own backup and recovery, and there is a need for a variety of products. In fact, HPE’s software and hardware products integrate with other 3rd party solutions such as storage arrays, backup appliances, backup software, to serve in these environments. But this approach can also mean fragmentation: separate management consoles, different deduplication engines for the data center and in remote offices, training for each product, products not always compatible, resulting in operational complexity that drives up cost and increases risk. Gartner recommends that one of the ways to cut costs is to consolidate/unify. So if you are evaluating your infrastructure now, this may be a good time to re-think the traditional storage hierarchy. The questions you should ask are: Is there a need for a centralized reporting function? Do I want to orchestrate all my backup tasks through centralized management? Do you need to see your data holistically to extract more intelligence out of your data? We believe that implementing a unified, integrated solution standardized across the IT environment (from DC to edge to DR site) is a better long-term strategy – a single software and hardware stack managed from a single console that is designed, tested, purchased, delivered and supported together Deduplication Deduplication Deduplication Virtualized Servers Deduplication Deduplication Management Management Management Management Physical Servers Management A single software and hardware solution that is designed, tested, purchased, delivered and supported together One deduplication engine through the stack Separate management consoles Siloed deduplication Multiple support organizations Separate data analytics Lower TCO More reliable Lower complexity More innovation Higher risk Higher cost Complexity

7 Our single HPE data protection architectureApplications, files and database Virtualization Mobile and Big Data Remote sites DR One unified management layer Protect, manage, monitor, analyse and discover What if this solution integrated all the data from a variety of sources – no matter where located and what they reside on and whether they are virtualized or physical – and stored it using a single unified management layer on a wide range of targets – from sw-defined up to massively scale-out appliances, all using the same deduplication technology - in a reduced footprint, with an efficient network utilization and with the scalability you need to keep pace with data growth. What if you could manage your entire organization’s backup from one screen – using one standardized platform for all the small remote offices, larger or regional offices, data centers and disaster recovery sites. Gluing these systems together is the Data Protector backup and recovery software which centralizes the management of all backup and recovery tasks Backup Navigator delivers real-time operational intelligence with personalized/customizable dashboards and reports, root-cause analysis, predictive analytics for getting the most out of your data. Storage Optimizer, another companion product, helps to tier off stale or obsolete data to improve the backup process and storage optimization. In remote locations – Data Protector manages the backup process, smaller StoreOnce appliances or a software-only StoreOnce virtual appliance. A disaster recovery process is automated with Data Protector. Since a single deduplication engine is used across HW and SW, deduplication is federated and can take place in the most advantageous place in the environment.
