5 Datos sobre la frontera entre Mx. y los EE UU.Es una de las fronteras más larga en el mundo, toca el Océano Pacífico y el Golfo de México (mide 1968 millas) La mayoría de la frontera está deshabitada pero hay metrópolis del comercio y zonas industrializadas. Es uno de los centros de mayor actividad comercial en el mundo. Es un beneficio económico para los dos países. La frontera se formó después de la guerra entre México y los EE.UU. en cuando parte del territorio mexicano pasó a ser parte de los EE.UU. (California, Nuevo México, Arizona, Nevada y Utah).

13 Datos sobre la frontera entre Mx. y los EE UU.México es el país hispanohablante más poblado del mundo. La frontera entre México y los EE UU es la frontera terrestre más transitada del mundo. Treinta por ciento de los inmigrantes que viven en los EE UU son mexicanos. Cada año miles de mexicanos entran a los EE UU legalmente para trabajar o estudiar temporalmente. México es el destino internacional más visitado por los estadounidenses (30% de todos los viajes). México es el país de más viajeros que visitan a los EE UU (19%).

(The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) defines Hispanic or Latino as “a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race).” ~ As of 2012, Hispanics constitute 17% of the United States population, or 53 million people. ~The U.S. Hispanic population for 2060 is estimated to reach million, constituting approximately 31% of the U.S. population by that date.

Following Mexicans were Puerto Ricans (9.4%), Salvadorans (3.8%), Cubans (3.7%), Dominicans (3.1%), Guatemalans (2.3%), and the remaining 13.7% were people of other Hispanic or Latino origins. ~ Approximately 1% of the world’s migrants enter the United States annually. In 2002, 1,063,732 documented immigrants entered the U.S. Worldwide, there were 175 million migrants in 2002. ~ Undocumented workers make up a large share of the workers in the following occupational categories; farming (24%), cleaning (17%), insulation installation (36%), roofing and drywall installation (29%), and food processing (27%). ~On the education scale, immigrants comprise 36% of workers who lack a high school diploma and 41% of scientists with doctoral degrees. ~ INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) estimated that 200,000 illegal immigrants entered the United States in 2012.

17 Apuntes de inmigraciónInformation regarding how to become a United States citizen: ~ Citizenship is the status given to a legal member of the country that involves rights, duties, and privileges. ~ Naturalization is the process by which a citizen of a foreign country becomes a United States citizen. ~ Persons may become United States citizens in two ways, either by birth or by law. ~ The eligibility requirements for U.S. citizenship include applying for citizenship. In addition, applicants must have a period of continuous residence and physical presence in the country, the ability to read, write and speak English, good moral character, knowledge of the principles of the U.S. constitution, a favorable disposition towards the U.S (must give up any other passports), and passing of the U.S. Citizenship test. ~ Almost 70% of citizens naturalized in 2004 lived in Texas, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and California, and 42% were from Asian countries.

18 la tarjeta verde – lawful permanent residence~ A Green Card gives a person official immigration status (Lawful Permanent Residence) and allows one to live and work permanently in the United States. There are several ways to qualify for a Green Card: 1. People who have close relatives who are citizens or who are Green Card holders. 2. Foreign nationals that have “extraordinary ability”, are researchers or professors, are managers of multinational companies, or have advanced degrees that may benefit the U.S national interest 3. Adopted children from other countries 4. Investors who create at least 5 full-time jobs and invest $500,000 in a U.S. commercial enterprise 5. Green Card Lottery winners 6. High level diplomats 7. Foreign nationals who are displaced from their home countries due to political persecution, war, famine, or political unrest.
