23 Argentina – Las Cataratas de Iguazú The river flows through Brazil but most of it is in Argentina. Alvar Núñez discovered it in 1541. Myth: Man found out his wife cheated on him. He took her and the lover on a canoe and he split the river in order to have them fall into their death separately.

25 Perú- Cuzco Machu Picchu It is 7,000 ft above sea level. It is the lost city of the Incas that was found by Hiram Bingham in 1911 but built in the 1400s. Archaeologists have speculated that Machu Picchu was a temple or sanctuary for high priests and women who have been referred to as Virgins of the Sun, though more recent research has convinced many that it was built as an estate for the Incan emperor Pachacuti, who ruled from 1438 until 1471 or 1472.
26 Perú- Paracas Islas Ballestas/ El Candelabro On the way to the islands, on the Paracas District visitors will notice El Candelabro that may have served as a beacon to mariners. The mystery as to the origins of this is ongoing with much speculation. During the visits it is not uncommon for the sea lions to approach the tourist boats and penguins make spectacles for the visiting tourists. The sea lions are also responsible for a unique audio spectacle with their wolf-pack cries that echoes around the Ballestas and creates a choir.
27 Perú- Lima El Centro de Lima Oldest public place in Lima. Francisco Pizarro founded the indigenous settlement of Lima. His home was also built there.
28 Perú- Lima & Cuzco Las Catedrales In “La Plaza de Lima” there are 14 side chapels, one of which opens on to “ Calle de Judíos” and another on to the “ Patio de los Naranjos”. “ La catedral de Cuzco” has many archeological artifacts and it is the mother of the Roman Catholics.
