2 Eden House Activity List by Pathway -2016Page 1 Eden House Activity List by Pathway -2016 April 2016 Women Only Space Eden House offers a safe space, where service users can benefit from a women only community and having their needs addressed in a gender specific way. Eden House runs lunch clubs every day. The women design meals based on the food we receive weekly from charity Fareshare, encouraging them to think on their feet and be resourceful with the food we have on site. Lunch is then available for everyone to eat between 12-2pm. For clients that show an enthusiasm in the kitchen, opportunities to do a Level 2 Food & Hygiene qualification will be offered. Drugs and Alcohol Eden House have strong links with many of the Bristol drug agencies such BDP, DHI and ARA. Staff can discuss the available options and refer any women who have drugs and alcohol identified as a support need. Women can see their other workers on site and are able to access drug testing if they wish to reflect abstinence in a more formal manner. This can be a useful and motivational tool around courts, probation, social services and in accessing the right support. Alcohol Awareness Group The Alcohol Awareness group is a 6 week course for anyone who is worried about the amount they are drinking or would like to know more about the effect that alcohol is having on their body, life and society in general. We look at safe limits and units and think about how much an individual drinks and whether they want to change their drinking habits. We will also look at the effect of alcohol on the human body; mind; sleep patterns; relationships, communities and society. We also have discussions on the costs and benefits of alcohol and what support is available in the community should an individual decide to change their drinking lifestyle. The last session focuses on relapse prevention and we discuss which techniques work for each person in different and possibly difficult situations. Health & Wellbeing General Support Support to seek, access and engage with health-related appointments. Fitness Eden House know the importance of exercise to keep healthy. Eden House has an onsite gym which has a variety of exercise equipment that service users are able to access at any time. Every Friday there is a Fun Fitness session run by support worker Lou. These sessions are both indoors and outdoors and can include circuit training and other fun group activities. Exercise helps to maintain abstinence, improve self esteem and support mental wellbeing. 3 Smoking Cessation Nurse Emotional Wellbeing GroupsPage 2 Relaxation & Beauty Sessions Adhoc relaxation sessions are a chance to take some time for yourself, listening to guided meditations whilst essential oils fill the room with calming aromas. Relaxation sessions also include the use of beauty treatments and products such as foot spas to unwind after a stressful week. It’s a good chance for service users to learn new ways of winding down and relaxing which they can then use to support themselves when independent in the community. Eden House also has a dedicated ‘relaxation room’ for clients to access which includes a SAD lamp and other tools to induce a state of relaxation and calm. We also offer Make-up and Beauty sessions with a trained Make-up Artist and Beauty Therapist. Smoking Cessation Nurse We have an onsite ‘Stop Smoking Advisor’ – Jo, who offers one to one sessions providing advice and support to stop smoking. Jo can prescribe products to support you to finally kick the habit as well as offer regular meetings to review how you are getting on. Emotional Wellbeing Groups 6-week structured programmes, where different skills and techniques will be covered each week to help group members to improve how they manage their own mental health and wellbeing. These courses are most helpful if group members come prepared to try new ways of approaching things and to have a go at trying things out between group sessions. They are facilitated by a qualified Mental Health Worker. At present we run the following three groups: Self Esteem and Identity This group covers techniques to challenge negative thinking about ourselves, and to identify and consider the strengths we have and how to build on these to develop a strong personal identity. Anger to Resilience This group looks at more effective and potentially less problematic ways to manage feelings of anger. It looks at understanding anger and developing longer term resilience to help group members feel more able to manage difficult emotions. Facing Your Fears This group looks at understanding and tackling anxiety - it involves making changes to thinking and behaviour to break the ‘vicious circle’ of anxiety. WRAP: Wellness Recovery Action Plans Do you want to develop a plan that looks at how to maintain your mental health and stay well? In this group we will be developing recovery plans that examine triggers, what keeps us well, maintaining our wellness and looking towards a brighter future. Coming soon!

7 Other – Soft Engagement GroupsTail End Fashion Workshops Tail End fashion designer Fran will be working with the women at Eden House to produce a fashion collection that can be showcased in a final show. The catwalk style show will be organised by participants as well, so clients can immerse themselves in the whole process of garment production to fashion show. Arts & Crafts Eden House run fun craft sessions weekly. We also have external agencies come on-site throughout the year to run their own creative sessions, such as Batik classes from the local college. Soft group activities reduce issues around isolation and boredom. Eden House recognises the importance of clients developing skills which they can then use in the community, to engage with local community based services and share with peers. In this way the women are able to build hobbies and social networks which are removed from their previous offending related habits such as drug and alcohol use. Client Development Outreach Support Eden House can provide services for women unable to attend the Day Service. For people who need support engaging in their local community services or even just leaving the house our staff can help. This can also be used to assess people in Prison, or at others agencies. Client Forum Eden House prides itself on being service user led, so the client forum is a chance for service users to discuss anything they are unhappy with, or make suggestions in regards to the Day Service. Eden House takes the feedback from the client forum seriously and when possible will use this information to develop or improve service provision; for example, the Eden House Gym was initially a suggestion from the service user feedback forum. Client Leads This scheme is run by Eden House. Clients who are progressing well within the service, and are ready to take on more responsibility can fill out a “Client Lead Application Form”. Client Leads are given a comprehensive on-site induction, as well as access to appropriate training in order to run soft engagement groups on-site.
