2 What is a yurt? Yurt is a portable , round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. Юрта - переносное, конусообразной формы жилище у кочевых народов Азии.

3 Arguments prooving the topic of our presentation:1. Yurt is made of pure organic materials that are not dangerous to the environment. 2. Process of building a yurt doesn’t involve any chemical or highly technological methods. 3. People that live in yurts have more chance of interacting with nature and knowing more about beauty of our planet.

4 What is yurt made of ? Traditional yurts consist of an expanding wooden circular frame carrying a felt cover. The felt is made from the wool of the flocks of sheep that accompany the pastoralists. The timber to make the external structure is not to be found on the treeless steppes, and must be obtained by trade in the valleys below.

5 How is a yurt built? Sewing the felt for a ger is a family affair.Gers are easy to put up.  The lattice work forms the wall, and supports the long roof poles, which come together at the central ring. The door always points to the south.

6 Covering the ger Layers of felt are draped over the frame, and covered with white cotton.  Several ropes hold everything together. 

7 Modern technology outside a gerSome have a windmill generator, and even a satellite dish to beam TV directly into their ger in the middle of the Gobi desert!
